Started my first reef tank in 04. I didnt discover the awesomeness of the zoa/paly world till about 2 years ago.
Cheers

Well, I've not had any zoa issues, have no special ways of taking care of them, don't collect the rare expensive stuff, and don't much care what their "names" are, so I don't really have anything to add. I just come to look at some of the amazing colonies others here have!

My friend, that is the greatest misconception about reefing and this forum in particular. I'm not being mean or forceful at all, just talking with you ok?

You said you have no zoa issues,....... you have no special ways to care for them, ......you don't collect what's considered rare and expensive........ and you're not into names, therefore you don't feel you have much to contribute. So, you just come to look at pictures. There are so many others who feel the exact same way you do believe it or not. Often they will sign in and just lurk and never post. Lastnight I noticed 70 guest here and only 20 RC members logged in, that's 3 times as many guest as members. So I wanted to share something with you, the 70 guest and all of the other great reefers who come here yet feel as you do. My friend, if you have a tank with zoanthids and palythoas etc, then you have an awful lot to say and share. Reefing is so much more than the 4 topics you mentioned above. Are your polyps open and fully expanded everyday? Then you can go to one of the introduction threads, introduce yourself and share that. Are you getting good growth? Then start a thread or respond to a growth thread and share it. Have you done anything to your tank today? Then share that in the thread I started below. What are your parameters and are your polyps responded well to those parameters? Then share that. Have you purchased anything new? Then share that. Have you made any mistakes, then share that?

This forum is not solely for the people who know more than others or for those who are into something you aren't. No, it's for everyone, and it take a village to make this forum what it is and should be. Everyone who comes to this forum has something vital to share. What you feel might be small and insignificant, just might be the one contribution which helps someone else who is or has experienced what you have experienced. So many reefing forums are suffering as the only threads which gets the most attention are the eye candy threads, ID threads and the named threads. If that is what some prefer to view, that's fine, I say go for it, but there is sooo much more my friend. This forum and all the other forums on the internet truly need people like you and those who simply feel that they don't have anything to share. On the contrary, you and those like you, have even more to share than I do. I can make a quick list of 30 things you could contribute off the top of my head, but I will stop here as I don't want you or others to feel that I'm beating up on you, and I can assure you I'm not. That's not me. I just wanted to in some small way say that I'm glad you and all the others are here and I want to personally invite you to jump in here and say something, anything. It is vital for the survival of this forum and all the others.

Sorry for the long direct and very public reply, but it was all in good faith and I meant absolutely no harm. Hope to see you and all the others sharing your experience and knowledge with us as you have more to share than you can possibly imagine.

PS. Wait a minute, 9 years and over 2,000 post/replies? Yep, you have a lot to say my dear. I'll be listening :)

Mucho, you're absolutely correct. I've looked around on this forum a lot, but I don't seem to have any answers to anything that someone else doesn't get to first, in greater detail! I'd love to give advice on how I put them in my tank, and 30 minutes later they're open and they stay that way (I see so many people having trouble with that)...but I have no idea why they open immediately and stay that way in this tank. Maybe it's the nitrates .

My years of experience with zoas is I have to like the way they look & get the most bang for my buck LOL. Not a whole lot of advice to give on those requirements! :lolspin:

And yeah, lots of posts over the years, but probably 95% of them are hitchhiker ID posts...hitchhikers are what got me hooked on the hobby cuz I had to know what everything was! I share that as often as possible. And I was without any tank from late 2004 till last October, so it's maybe a little embarassing to say it's not really even 9 years worth of posts! :o

I admire your desire. Maybe you don't think you have any answers my friend, but I'm sure you have questions. You can share your thoughts, your ideas, your opinions, you can even become proactive and ask hypotheticals before issues arise. You can create a poll, you can share something you have seen in your tank, a new gadget, a video, anything. You should never feel like you don't have anything to bring to this forum, cause you do, trust me, you do. If I can ever do anything to help you, don't hesitate to drop me a line, OK? No one can learn all there is to know about reefing over night, it takes time. I'm still learning, so don't feel like the 5th wheel here, ever. OK?

I'm gonna keep working on you, you'll come around, LOL

Bingo, you're my new ID go to person, you see, that's all it takes. Everybody, every single person here has something, whether they believe it or not to bring to this and every forum. So tell me about the last hitchhiker you saw in your tank? I want you to share that my friend, thanks.

I also want to thank everyone who participated in this poll. I posted this poll for a reason. Just look at the numbers, oh I'm sure the replies could have been higher, but we take what we can get. There's a lot of talent and experience here, and like Sushigirl, each of you have something to bring to the table. Think about it, and give it a shot, I for one would love to hear it.

Thanks again everyone, safe reefing.

So far we don't have any REALLY interesting hitchhikers in this tank, just the usual hydroid jellys at startup, my first acoel flatworm ever (promptly flushed LOL), one pyramellid, a few asterinas and several mini brittles, pods, etc. I was really excited about the tiny all black stomatella that came in on a frag, but I've only seen it twice and not in about a month.

The most interesting is "Stomazilla" -- no idea where he came from, as I bought 3 white ones and they were in the fuge, but he got really huge (3 inches stretched out) very quickly and has spawned several times, resulting in a few baby ones just like him in the fuge. Apparently "spawn" can make its way through the sponge filter on the outflow from the tank :D.

On the powerhead for size comparison.

so I don't really have anything to add.

Hmmmmm. and wasn't it you who said that ? :D So I think I proved my point right? :wavehand: All of that knowledge you have must be shared, this is what I'm talking about. Now allow me to thank you for that fine contribution, great stuff my friend.

Everyone, ...everyone has something to share.

Thanks again Sush

I know, but I'm still not letting you off the hook, my new go to person for hitchhikers.:wavehand:

Thanks Sush
