How long until True Perc's are mature?

We have a pair of true percs. We bought them nearly one year ago. They are tank raised, and were a little over an inch long when we bought them.

One was larger than the other, and it wasn't long before we observed dominance in the larger of the two. The smaller of the two quivered in reponse, etc. and they seemed to bond quickly. Never far apart.

Now they have started hosting an rbta (a small one). The female is usually in the nem while the male swims along outside it.

Today I noticed the two swimming closely side-by-side next to the nem. The male was doing his "seizure". Is this just more of their bonding behavior? Or, are they old enough to spawn? Perhaps they've been stimulated by now hosting a nem?

Just curious :)

That is the male's way to tell the female he's ready to get it on. Unfortunately, it is the female that decides when they are both ready. So it could be anytime soon or never. I had a pair of Chrysos that the male always egged her on, but she never gave it up, but they were always together like they were a pair. I guess somehow the female got ahold some wedding cake and sterilized herself.

LOL @ the "give it up" part.
I wondered also. I've had my perculas for over a year now and they're still under 2 inches. it seems like they grow pretty slow!

I have been asking about this too!

I have a pair of Onyx babies that are still lacking their third stripe and they are about a 1yr old now.
