how long?

hey, i am setting up a 29 aga reef and i am going with a single 250 watt mh i really like zoas how long will it take a frag with maby five little zoa things (i dont know what to call them) to grow to maby 25-30 little things? sorry if i sound ignorant but i dont know what to call the little things

No problem it is a learning experience, depending on the zoas and the tank conditions it can be anytime... I got a small frag of 5 watermelon zoas and in two weeks have seen 5 or 6 new polyps... Just try and get the tank conditions under control and they should take off in no time...

Make sure your water parameters are in good ranges, keep up on water changes and give them light... The more the better... I see you are going to have one 250 MH... What bulb are you going to run? what reflector are you using?

some zoos will yield you 5-8 polyps a month some on 1 or maybe less per month.. Light/flow/water condition all play a key role.

as for lighiting i am getting a retro from hellolights.com with an electronic ballast but i don't know weather or not to get a de or se bulb

Personally if i had to do it again I would go with the DE... I have 2 SE bulbs and a lot had to be done to make them perform properly... What i mean is the DE come with a pendant with the reflector enclosed, the SE you have to get a really good reflector to make sure the light is going into the tank... Personally I also think there are a few better bulbs in the DE range as well...

personally i like SE's which i placed in a couple PFO parallel reflectors. i might have spent a little more, not much, for my setup but i assure you i get more light spade from it that no DE will ever give you. i got most of the stuff from hellolights.
