How many and when is it too many!

#1. Woman do not like aquariums

Not true. You just have to look harder! Says a female who had 7 freshwater tanks in high school, three freshwater tanks and betta tank in college, and was directly involved in the excessive number of saltwater aquariums in our house..... And the axolotl tank was all me.... :)

Over the course of many years I have had multiple saltwater tanks going at the same time. I even did again recently. But as others have mentioned budget and time is the key.

I have to disagree too and second SecretiveFish's comment about looking harder.

Please see my post above ;) My wife got me started on koi and the saltwater reef tank. She wants me to go with her to the LFS today, in fact.

Obviously you have your exceptions. Most women in my experience want something you can feel touch and pet. Like a dog, a cat, or a baby.

They want to be a mother, with mother hood instincts. I think its hard for them to have towards a fish.

My wife is slowly gaining an appreciation for the tanks. How many tanks do you have and when is it enough?

quality is more important that quantity though I must add.

I have friends, with multiple tanks, and they only take care of one, the others become a graveyard kinda reef, with algae and sick fish and .... noone appreciates those ! so I guess the true limit, is on how many skimmers you can service weekly, how many ATOs, how much water you can make daily, water changes and so on ....

if you live in a house, then smartest option is to connect multiple tanks to the same system, using UV on all drains. like copps does. you will have one set of equipments, one water change and ... things would be much simpler, but doesnt work for me, since I live in a condo.

My wife wasn't the biggest advocate when I said, let's put an aquarium in the living room, but she went for it anyway. Now she loves it. Every time I see her walk by she stops and spends some time looking in the tank. She has named all the fish, the hermit crabs and the turbo snail.

I constantly get updates about who did what and what happened when I was at work or out of the house.

To answer the initial question, I have two. The 55g in the living room (because I wasn't sure about the floor holding more weight) and a 12g Fluval in my kitchen for my beloved Betta Frank.

Women don't like fish? I'm a female. How many is too many? ...

I used to breed, sell and show Betta splendens. I had 26 tanks running, and a 100 container gutter system. You just can't have too many. ROFL

Right now I have my 40 with a 15 gallon sump (that's being upgraded to a 29. Just measured yesterday and it's the biggest that'll fit). I have a 10 gallon QT, using another 10 for fresh mixed salt and a 15-20L in the basement plant room with 2 bettas (divided). I'm setting up 2 more 10 gallons for copepods. Using 2-liters for baby brine shrimp and phytoplankton.

So I have 4 running right now not including sump and I"m guessing by next week I'll have 6 running. Oh, and I have a little 20-30 gallon pond in the back yard for bettas to snack on mosquito larvae in the summer, but it isn't a tank so it don't count. Make that 5 cause the saltwater mix tank don't count either. <-- female logic! LOL

I should probably check and see if I have something bigger for the saltwater mixing too since I"m increasing the water in the main tank... I think I have a 20 gallon somewhere, and that'll free up a 10 gallon for a stone fish...

I'm female. I once had 7 marine tanks ranging from 70 gal to 125 gal (2). I petted and loved on my shark daily. I let my clowns and damsels nibble on my fingers. My fish were my babies, along with 4 dogs.

The problem is this fish isn't compatible with that fish, but I want them both so I'll need another tank. That's how it starts.

I think time to take care of them is the most important factor. I currently have 3 tanks. A 125 and 6 gallon saltwater and an 80 gallon freshwater planted. I like the look of both types in the same room. I used to have 3 more tanks set up and all of them suffered to some degree. I am really enjoying less to take care of and more time to just gaze.
