How many blue leg hermits in my 20?

I'd go with 0.... ;)

I've still got a couple of blue legs roaming around in my 125 that I haven't pulled out; but, all the other hermits are Mexican Red Legs or Scarlets.

The Red Legs do a much better job at cleaning than the blue legs -- at least for me.

I agree with that, I have baha hermits from Premium Aquatics, they aren't scarlet hermits but they aren't monsters like blue legged ones.

I really don't like any crabs or snails they knock things over all the time mostly at night. After you tank cycles you shouldn't need many of either(few)

I have 2 scarletts in my 24 AP and they do a great job. I am fishless right now, but I have some nice patches of red gracila (sp?) and some other bigger red leafed algae, and they seem to munch on it a little, but once some hair algae popped up, they had it gone in less than 2 days.

They also seem to like to climb up the back wall, then fall to the sand. Last night they both took off up the wall like they were trying to see who could get up it the fastest!!! Too bad my astrea snail came along and knocked them both off.

My experience with blue legs are that they love to rip each other out of their shells and seem to play gladiator with your snails too. Jon

3 hermits is more than enough, i agree, the scarlets are the way to go. Most others get huge over time. If you have 10 hermits in a 20g tank youl run into issues.....to say the least. The hermit per gallon rule is not just obserd it is ignorant in nature.

go with the micro hermits, they are like blue legs but really small, they can't cause trouble but do a good job cleaning up.
