Hey everyone -

Quick question...

I have a lfs that has a hatch of fry from some black saddleback clowns and they are going to be ready for sale soon. I have a H. magnificat and would like to house a small family of them with it. the system is a 600 gallon display with several tangs and a few others currently inhabating. Just wanted to know how many could I safely place in the system.

Fish are as follows:

Big nose Valmingi
Unicorn Tang
Purple Tang
Desurmeri Tang
Copper band butterfly
Sailfin tang
4 stripe zebra damsel
springer dottyback
royal graumi
yellow rabbitfish

Well I don't think it is much of a problem for a large anemone to be able to handle the clowns. In the wild, you will often see an anemone hosting many clowns at at time. The problem is that as clowns mature, they tend to assert their dominance over the immature males and they will slowly be killed off. In the long run you will often just end up with a pair. In your case, you have an exceptionally large aquarium and you might be able to get away with having more than one pair of clowns but you would need to select the species carefully. If you intend to keep anemones I would probably get more than one to give the pairs some distance from each other.
