How many do not quarantine?

I appreciate all the participation in my question. For those who feel strongly about QTing, please refrain from reiterating how everyone should quarantine. These kinds of comments are exactly what I didn't want on here because it intimidates those who choose not to quarantine and makes it uninviting for them to answer. This isn't about preaching to the choir. I'm legitimately wanting to know what the experiences are on those who do not or did not QT. There is an entire subform on RC that is dedicated to disease control and QTing. I am not looking for reasons to not QT, I am not looking for justification to not QT, I am looking for personal experiences because the negatives outweigh the positives on this forum because those who don't quarantine are intimidated into staying quiet.
Again, thank you for participating but please refrain from changing the topic.

The problem with your question is that contradicts what RC is all about. RC is about promoting the best way to take care of an aquarium and its inhabitants. The question in itself is counter to that. You are not really gathering new evidence to share knowledge or disprove commonly believed misinformation.

It is like you are asking how many of you mistreat your pets but they live thru it. I am not trying to attack you, I really am trying to get you to see what you are asking.

Not to mention that you can't pose a question and then tell people they aren't allowed to respond in the way you don't want them to. It's a discussion forum!

I think the spirit of this thread was a good one and its a good question.

Look, we all know heaters are a point of failure. Its obvious and inarguable that having multiple low wattage heaters, each on an independent controller, would greatly reduce the risk of heater failure.

Are we not allowed to ask how many people run with a single heater because its "not promoting the best way to care for fish"?

Peppermint shrimp sometimes eat coral. its obvious and inarguable the not putting peppermint shrimp in your tank will reduce the risk of them eating your coral.

Is it then not allowed to ask how many people have peppermint shrimp because its not "promoting the best way to keep fish"?

Everything has a risk. We all accept some level of risk in everything we do. I find the notion that no level of risk is acceptable -- for a fish tank -- very odd coming from people who presumably drove to work in a motor vehicle this morning (accepting some risk to life and limb).

Like everything in life, its about balancing risks vs your own risk tolerance.

The issue isn't with the question, it's with the fact that the question was posed with the caveat that the OP doesn't want to read anything else but exactly what they want to read.

Wow

I have never QTd a thing in over 10 years in the hobby. I don't necessarily like fish so I don't buy expensive or rare fish. I also don't have great success with fish and might be because I don't QT them?

I also never QT coral. I dip, inspect and scrub EVERY one though. I got red bugs once and that sucked but was pretty easy to eradicate with Interceptor.

With my new tank, I may setup a QT of some kind. Don't really have the space or budget so that means my tank just sits empty for longer.

Does that make me a "bad" reefer or hobbyist? That is up to you I guess.

I don't qt, still have the first four fish I bought 11+ years ago. I have had some casualties, but no diseases. I will say that the place I buy from mediates there fish water.

I never said people who quarantine could not answer with their experience. What I have asked is people refrain from telling everyone they are being X-Y-Z for not quarantining. Or preaching all the reasons they should.

I myself QT. Like others here I learned the hard way. I had no issues till I brought in an infected fish. What I am asking is for personal experiences not to make this into a morality argument.

Umm...

We QT fish. Been burnt a few times in the past. Also LFS quality plays a part. However I don't QT corals. however do a double dip in 2 products...

One problem is if a fish is to large for my 29G QT tank... sometimes have the LFS hold on to it then put it in the display. however i know this is not a true QT however if the fish is in a small GT and gets stress....

Super dangerous. Some folks do it and have had luck but all it takes is for one fish to get ich and wipe out your whole tank.

Electricity and salt water is also very dangerous. Only takes one pump/light/heater/whatever and your house burns down.

Everything in this hobby has danger associated with it

I had to rub my tank fallow for 3 months after gettingy first two fish and watching them die. I hope the best for you but just going from my personal experience
