How many do you keep?

Just wondering how many clams ppl keep and how man is enough, I am now at 7 clams(1 12" derasa, 2 3" teardrops, 4 3" croceas). This is all in a 50g w/ a 20g fuge and 10g sump, getting a little cramped...lol.
I am trying to get as many as will fit and I am wondering if anyone has ever hit a limit and now been able to keep anymore, because I just keep getting more and more and I'm worried that there is a limit.

thanks
JR

I have 7 in my 80G, 6 squamosas and a single maxima. The only reason I do not have several more is because it is so difficult to find nice clams over here. I am upgrading to a 5x2x2 because some of my squamosas are gettting big (well over 6") and there isn't enough sandbed space.

wow 6 squamosas that is going to be impossible to keep in the long run. A LFS in my area keeps a 3' one, I have never seen anything so huge in my life, it looks like you could fit inside of it.

good luck

but you have a big tank, I am worried I am going to reach my limit. I mean 7 clams of all decent size is getting to be packed. I am getting a camera soon so I can post a pic of my clam tank.

thanks

I have 8 but Im being real selectve for adding any new ones...I have 3 teardrops 3 croceas and 2 maximas. Just keep in mind the more you add, the more competetion for food and calcium there will be so you will want to ensure your calcium stays high and dose DT's or some form of phyto to keep them all happy...especially if you have a light bioload.

I does twice the normal amount of DT's for my tank to provide for all my clams, and I have a HUGE calcium reactor.

I planned ahead on this one...lol.

Tank size does not matter too much. As long as you keep your alk and calcium the proper levels, you should be okay. Dosing DT's does help also.

Well I have a "nice" little surprise, I just went and looked at my tank and my big derasa is spawning. I have just dropped in fresh carbon, upped the skimmer and am mixing new water as we speak. So I think I will be good to go.

thanks
