well it depends on the size and type of fish you're thinking of puting in there.

if you're talking about little gobbies and jawfish you can comfortably put half a dozen to maybe 8 fish in a twenty. But if you put some bigger guys in there like say a clown or a pygmy angel or something then i'd say only about 4.

with inverts same thing applies. what kind and how big? you're going to want to have the essential clean up crew. a few blue legs a few snails and maybe a small brittle star. But i'd say stick with that and maybe a shrimp or two.

As far as corals and other photosynthetic inverts go, you can put as many of those as will fit on the rock as long as you have the right conditions. They won't add to your nitrite load.

i had 4 and the tank was always getting dirty. i had 3 originally and i wouldnt put more then 3 in again

is your tank a 20 long or a 20 tall? I personally like the 20 long because it gives your fish more surface area in the tank to swim since most fish are not vertical swimmers.....plus you wont need as strong of lighting to get good results with the shallower tank

The less fish the better. 1-3 small fish. As for inverts, as long as you add them slow, they won't add too many nutrients to your system.Snails are necessary to eat the algae. I prefer not to have urchins in a small system but that is my preference. They knock over rocks.
