How many gallons......

I would like to build a custom tank that is 8' long x 18" high X 24" deep. Can anyone tell me how many gallons that would be?

180 according to an online conversion chart.

There are 231 cubic inches in a gallon...

8'= 96"
so 96" x 24" x 18" = 41472 total cubic inches of water.

41472/231 = 179.53 or 180 rounded up to the gallon.

Thats the easy way to calc the gallons for any tank when you don't have the online calculator with you.

Just thought I'd share the equasion for anyone who didn't have it! It's super handy when you're making a sump and need to calc the water volume in each chamber.

Less depth would be my suggestion. It will cost you less on the electric bill to keep it lit, and it's easier to reach into.
