How many nassarius snails would you have?

In a 90 gallon tank with 3 inches of sand. I have 5 and they have been fine for several months. I hear crazy numbers for people loading up on these snails. I get concerned that there isn't enough food for that many.

How many have you had in a tank that survive for the long term?

I don't purposely add them as I see no use as what little food that is left over goes towards feeding other organisms on and in the sand and rubble areas. Algae grazing snails and maybe a fish herbivore or two is all that is needed for algae control. I don't agree with adding hermit crabs either, their destruction of sessile life far out weighs any use they may be with algae control.

It depends on how heavily you feed and if there are any left overs. If theres a bunch ofleft overs, you probably shouldnt be feeding that much anyways. If there isnt that much, then get maybe 20?

I would have thought 20 is too many. Is there really that much food for 20 snails in the sand?
