I am in terested in getting an Angel, most likely a regal or queen. I was wondering what kind of angels u guys have in your SPS reefs. Do u recommend trying one? What are your experiences? Thanks!!!

P.S. I am currently planning a 250g+ in-wall reef so whatever angel I choose will move to the larger reef when it is finished.

I have an emperator angel and doesn't seem to bother anything. I occassional see it take a peck @ at one of my acro but then again it peck on my rocks too. Maybe I have a few dead polyps on that particular one.

I used to have a flame but got to rid of it since it devour my frogs and hammers and wait my neon green open brain. I also caught it picking on one of my scoly so I decided to take it out. I like flames but I love corals. HTH.

Hey i have 2 right now, a Centropyge interruptus and a Centropyge joculator.

i plan on getting a blueline angel, Chaetodontoplus septentrionalis as soon as one comes in.

the 2 in the tank now are fine with SPS, some LPS, 2 clams, and a couple zoos.....

BUT wiht all angels it will be 50/50, but there is a way to help you chances.....

if you want some info shoot me a PM.

Ive got a coral beauty that doesnt seem to bother anything, but I would never get a regular angel and even a flame are very touch and go. Its just not worth the trouble IMO. There are soo many nice fish that wont touch anything. Wrasses and Anthias come to mind.

I can echo that emperor observation. It pecs at some sps but never has harmed the colony in any way. As it get bigger it picks less.

I have a Regal and the only thing that he has eaten that I have given him is Macrofeast. I have had him for a month and a half and he has eaten some zoo's but that's fine with me as long as he eats something. I haven't had him pick at my clams, sps, or lps. Within the fisrt week I got him he agot a bacterial infecetion that is finally going away. I think he's going to make it.

Myself I have an emperor, singapor, flagfin, and magestic in a sps tank with a few leathers and a clam(risky) Upon doing my research found two things, one as long as you understand that in most cases lps's and softies are no no's and you have mostly sps or all sps then your selection is much wider its the meaty corals the large Angel go after usually, The second I have found is accually in the same sinario that dwarf angels are more risky that the large. I have know this also from personal experience as I have had many types in the past: Flame, coral beauty, potters, A couple of Emperors ( adults), blue face, a large flag fin., lost due to a power outage and ich outbreak. Now I have what I meantioned.

I recently got rid of an emperor, it was great until it completed it's color transformation to adult, than it started eating everything

Thanks for all of your help. I am going to try and order a regal angel from the LFS. I havbe heard with regals that one is more prone to not eating than the other. Is this true? There are two kinds of regals or two from different areas of the ocean right?

CRO22O- alittle less....

i personally love angels, so to me it is worth the risk.

i guess later on i will post my thoughts on how to get an angel that is "less" likely to pick at SPS. It is about a vendor, that's why i am not sure if the rules allow me to post it here.

but i will because some people asked. i will do it when i get home from work.

Mods- if you feel you need to delete the post or move it go ahead.

thanks

I introduced a 3 1/2" Red Sea Regal into my tank almost a week ago. I kept him in QT (actually my remoted refugium) for over a month, all the while switching different corals in and out to make as sure as I could that he wouldn't pose a problem. Not only didn't he eat any SPS or LPS 'samples', he didn't even touch the zoo's! He seemed to love Mysis, Pro-V veggies, Formula One (frozen), Spectrum pellets, and especially fresh clam & oyster meat.

He got the expected rude greeting from a couple of my Tangs upon introduction, but this has all but played itself out and he's swimming out in front about 75% of the time. Still no undesirable 'picking'.
