some fish wont get cleaned by them. 2 reasons i think. 1 they dont know what they are. 2 there are certain shrimp that mimic cleaner shrimp to lure smaller fish looking for a cleaning to thier death.
I have 2 peppermints in a 20 gal. They get along great with each other, but they get aggressive toward the fish when its feeding time. One took a ride 3 times around the tank holding onto the firefishes tail. Now the firefish stays away from him.
The bait shrimp I got at a bait shop....it was to be a gag for my wife, but they have turned out to be the best scavengers in the tank. I feed heavy, and there`s never left over chuncky food bits , due to these little guys. I will try to post pics tonight.
Plus the are chickens....never have been confrontational. They always leave instead of fighting.
I would love to see some pics of these bait shrimps, I have this feeling like they are going to stick out like a soar thumb - prove me wrong! (or right)
Looks like this thread's pretty beat to me...and i havent read it at all, but to answer the question, i've got 3 cleaners in my 40 breeder. Soon to be 2 though, because 2 of them seemed to have "paired off" and they chase the other one around.
lol...they definately stick out...
but I have had a few reefers come by the house to look at the tank and they love them. They are not really a reef type shrimp. But during the day they bury themselves in the snad and all you see are thier eyes (if you look hard)
They come out at night mostly. So they don't really clash, with the reef look since they are nocturnal.
I have one relic of a FW tank left right now since I got into the SW world. I'm hoping to fully dismantle it soon. It has a large Oscar and a pretty big blue lobster in there. I wish the lobster was SW because he's quite the character - daily escape attempts, fighting the oscar etc.. He'll be gone soon, but would look great in my reef
If I wasn't so grossed out by it, I'm sure he would taste great on my plate with just a little salt and butter.
