how many true percs in a 40 gallon?

I've got a 40 gallon, 30x20x20 - how many percs do you think I can house?

I've got a deltec skimmer, so i think it should be able to handle the biowaste- but spacewise, what would be approaching uncomfortable/irresponsible care-giver status?

Thanks

booo i wanted 6!

clowns are all I am going to keep... do you think 6 would be too many?

Do some research. All three people above said 2 (and are correct), and supplied good reasons.

It is possible to house more than 2, but ONLY if they decide they want to form a harem, which is incredibly hit or miss in the aquarium, and probably won't last forever.

No Booboos! You can only keep a pair of clowns in there or else you're asking for trouble. It seems that you've been on here long enough and you have enough experience, so I assume you'll take our advice and ONLY GET 2.

yes i will only be getting two.. i hadn't read up on clown fish, but after some reading last night, they are some tempermental bunch.

thanks.

just buy two really nice ones get some rare clowns or a cool color morph
they are the best fish you will ever own so much personality

What's wrong with just a normal pair of any variety of clown? I fail to see how random genetic deviations make any particular fish universally superior.

I know, get a pair of clownfish and some clown gobies :D lol just kidding. As the others have said, it would end up in a big fight over time if there were more of them most likely. You can put a lot more than 2 clowns in the 40, smaller fish anyway. Lots of cool ones you could keep.

I have 32 Ocellaris in a 54 gallon tank. I have rasied these since they were eggs for about 8 years now. Yes this is way too many fish for this size tank, but they do not fight at all with each other.

That's because they were all from the same batch of eggs. You REALLY need to sell a LOT of those fish. Unless they're still fry, they are WAY too crowded and must be really stressed.

Don't get any ideas thirst. You CAN NOT have more than 2 clowns in your tank.

Personally, I wouldn't put anything more than a pair of clowns in a 40g, but that's just because I like to give fish a good amount of swimming room.
