How may tangs?

I already have a hippo tang for a year now its about 4 inches. I would like to add another different type of tang. Is there any does and don't to adding different species of tangs to one tank?

I think Hippos would get along with any species of tang, outside of a sohal/clown tang. They can be aggressive and could whip up on any kind of fish.

Any in particular that excites you?

I was thinking a powdered brown or a yellow tang.

If you like the powdered brown, also consider the Goldrim, to my eye their colors are a little more striking when the fish get more mature.

As for your original question, you should have no problem with another tang with a hippo (excluding the Sohal and Clown already mentioned).

As long as they are of a different genus you should be ok. (excluding sohal/clown tang). The size of the tank has a lot to do with it as well. How big is your tank?

I think you should be fine with either additions providing you have adequate tank space.

I had a powder brown and it was one of my favorite fish. It never bothered anything and would eat out of my hand.

My vote is for the powder brown. If you dont QT, try to get the fish from DD.

The white cheek on DD right now looks amazing.

I have Yellow, Kole, Powder blue, Hippo and Sohal and they do just fine... I'm still goin to add a Nigicans as soon as I find a good specimen.
I would never advice anyone to get a Sohal or Lineatus unless the tank is basically huge!!

IMO Yellow tang and Hippo tang look great together! And they also get along, so points for the Yellow tang
Chtenochaetus tominiensis is also quite nice, and the tangs from that genus are great in algae control!

We need more information on your tank. How big is the tank? What do you have for filtration? What fish do you currently have in the tank?

Only after we get this information can we say whether adding another tang will work in your tank or not. There are many variables. You might already be fully stocked for your tank, or your tank just isn't big enough for another tang. More info and we can help you determine whether another gang will be a good fit.

I won't be getting another one till I get my 180 running, I know a 75 is to small for 2 tangs.

I have a hob psk100 skimmer and a hob refug. That will also be replaced with a sump once I upgrade.
