How much can fish eat?

As long as they eat it, I don't see an issue.
My only concern would be phosphate since nori is so high in phosphate.
How is your phoshate level?

I don't measure since my kits don't register anything.

I have an ATS that grows very quickly so the phosphates and nitrates are getting bound up in their tissues. I export 123g of squeezed out turf a month. I'm feeding about 120-150g of nori in the same period. It looks like the nori I feed, but reconstituted...

I also export chaeto and the effluent from my skimmer is about 2 quarts a day of liquid. I haven't weighed the solid waste from the skimmer. Looks like I should... To get a complete measure of ins/outs. It is ... hard ... to get myself to remove it for weighing. Usually I just blast it with scorching hot water to get the job done ASAP.

Sound like its not an issue then.

Out of curiousity, why don't you just feed the ATS algae back to the fish.
I would be they would eat that.

I thought of that, but they prefer the Nori. They'll only eat the hair algae if I let them go for a day without Nori.

I think I'll try it since the hair comes out in sheets that I can put in the Nori holder... just hairier.

It's not really removing the nutrients then is it if he's adding the hair algae back to the fish?
ATS is supposed to be a nutrient exporter, much like a protein skimmer. You don't see too many people dumping their skimmate back into their tanks.. And I doubt his tangs would eat it.

It's like a closed formula

Protein Food + Nori = Import
Algae + Chaeto + wet skimmate + dry skimmate = Export

There's also

Evaporation Out + ATO in for water

Coral Skeleton "Out" and Ca+Alk+Mg in for mineral buid

Along with the various gas loops.

I'm going to weigh all my food and waste. In theory, Food > Waste for growth.

It's like any pet.. it eats and poops. In this case, the algae is part of the "out". The point is to use the food for energy and for material to build new tissue as the old wears out and needs to be replaced.

I think the Nori has better nutrient content than the algae. But the algae is fresh and full of pods... I really don't know.
