I was a day away from ordering from them. they are local to me and I went to see their shop. they do great work but in the end just too much $$$. I ended going north of the border for a 315g 3/4" starphire and external overflows for $4k.

New standard AGA/Aqueon 180gal. $400 (gotta love Craigslist)
It was too heavy for where the guy wanted to put it in his home.

Looking into a custom tank as you are obviously does not give you many options.

Good Luck!

$2750 for my 210 that doesn't have water in it yet. Tank was $569. Entire cost was for new tank, DIY stand, DIY LED, NAC9, 150lbs dry rock, and misc plumbing, pumps, etc. I don't feel so bad after seeing some of these prices. :D

60x60x30, 468 gallon tank with 3/4" glass, beveled edges and eurobracing was $2200.

96x30x30, 375 gallon was $1100.

I hope to be like some of you guys some day with a larger tank. I am looking at the pricing some of you guys pay for the high end custom tank manufacturers. I know craftsmen not only charge for their skill but they must factor in specific materials for a given project. I have been reading this forum for quite sometime and have read where several reefers have had tanks delivered that was not to their acceptance and have stated company A is going to make another for them. So Im thinking while looking at these prices, do they charge enough to cover material and labor twice. Maybe I am looking at things wrong or dont really understand the process. Someone shed some light on me. Thanks.

Give the builder a good technical drawing. If you have everything on a spec sheet with the proper dimensions and plans along with how thick you want the glass or acrylic to be it will help. The overflow, return lines and even the opening on the tank should be done via a technical drawing.Have the builder send you pics of the build while it is getting done.I made the mistake of not making a technical drawing.I was sent some drawings but they where very plain. My biggest mistake was thinking that my 500 gal acrylic tank was going to have to large openings because in the picture on the web page that's what the drawing had.Stupid me I get the tank and I have 4 openings. It would have cost me more to have the 2 large ones but I assumed that's what I was going to get.Everything else I asked for was done correctly. My stupidity but I lived with it.

500 gal acrylic tank 8ft x 4 ft x 28 high with external coast to coast overflow on the 4 ft side of the tank $4500 delivered to my garage.I bought the tank from fish tanks direct but the tank was built by *******.I would have liked to go with glass but it was very heavy and expensive.

Good advice, Ben. I did that with Bow Valley Aquarium when I got my tanks with everything in writing and rough pictures of tanks with overflows, etc, etc. Very good advice.

Its very hard to find a good builder unless you have seen the tanks in person. With that in mind none of us here are professional tank builders. Its best to ask people who built there tanks and what they liked and disliked about both the builder and the finished product. If you are looking to save money then you can use thinner materials but in all honesty why would you want to gamble with it.The last thing you want is to come home to a fish room filled with water and dead livestock because you wanted to save a few bucks on the tank so you bought it from a guy on the net who really doesn't know what he is doing. Then you try to get some type of refund and the guy goes bankrupt. The thicker better built tanks will always cost more.If the deal sounds to good to be true then maybe its not such a deal after all. There is also a hell of a lot of bad builders out there.I have seen this locally when I first tried to find someone to build a glass tank for myself along with a guy who wanted to charge me 12k for a 500 gal acrylic tank.He specialized in acrylic tanks, but the truth was he built smaller tanks that where picture like frames. They where expensive but in reality he wanted a lot of money to build a large tank but had never built large tanks. His biggest tank was 90 gallons. There are many guys out there just wanting to take your money and give you a totally crappy product because in the end they couldn't care less about there product, they have no true morals because its all about the money and no true passion about what they are building.A good builder will always take pride in what they build and they will back there product because they didn't cut back on the steps and material they used to build it.
