How Much Did You Pay For Your Tank?

My custom 195 (72x26x24) by Coast to Coast Custom Aquariums here in New Jersey:

-perimeter eurobracing
-Starphire front, black on sides and back panel, black siliconed seems, 3/4" bottom
-black glass overflow with one 1 1/2" drain and one 1" return

$2,400 (being built now and should be ready by the end of February).

I like that they're local to me and especially like that there are only two people running the show over there...both working partners/owners. They WANT you to come to their shop to see their work, which I must say is as close to flawless as it gets. Being a contractor I can appreciate the attention to detail as well as the cleanliness and organization of their shop. ALL glass edges are beveled and polished, they only use PPG American made Starphire glass (there are many grades, PPG is the best) and proudly proclaim that they've never had a tank fail....a definite plus in our hobby but especially good to know with the size tanks that some of us are putting in our homes. If time and budget allows I'll be asking them to build my sump as well.

I've seen tanks from other manufacturers. I won't list the differences. Most are great, quality tanks with outstanding craftsmanship, but I just felt that there was an extra level of attention to detail with Coast to Coast, and in the end that was the deciding factor. This tank will be in my home office and will be seen up close very day...so I better like it!!!

Chris and Pat don't cut any corners or compromise quality...and just like Bubble King skimmers you're going to pay a premium for that.

180g busted back glass=$50
135g leaked =$110
Silicone=$30
Used the glass from the 135 to fix the
180
So I have $190 in my drilled 180.

I was lucky enough to find a three-sided starphire glass 280 gallon pre-drilled for closed loop for $900 including steel stand and canopy. Had to drive across three states to pick it up, but saved me a few thousand dollars.

540 ATM straight from Tanked .....$ dont ask most would kill me lol ......came from a dive shop in the keys that had no clue what they were doing

200 Gallons 84" x 24" x 24" reef ready $500.00 Craig's list, stand, sump, protein skimmer, 190lbs live rock and bunch misc stuff thanks goodness for Craig's list that's the only way I could afford a big tank

I bought my acrylic 150g with stand for $400. 60x24x24. Drilled.

60" x 18" x 24" 125g acrylic tank, Wood stand and canopy, plus 2 Reefstar pendants with halide bulbs for $195.00 used !!!!!!!!!!! Still strong 3 yrs later with some initial TLC.

Late August 2001 - I drove 10 hrs each way to pick up my used Oceanic 200 Reef Ready reef setup it was fully stocked and included all equipment. I paid $2,200 for it plus around $500 for travel, pickup, trailer repair and mover fees. It was quite an event dismantling it and getting all the livestock, live rock and aquarium water loaded - my Nissan Frontier and trailer were overloaded!! On the way back the trailer got a flat at around 6 am in the middle of a turnpike on a Sunday morning - try finding a repair center at that time in the middle of Oklahoma. I hadn't slept in almost 36 hrs, I was tired and it was hot and humid outside - needless to say I called in sick on Monday and I still have flashbacks to the whole event.

Best investment ever!!

50*30*24 my reef creations starphire glass 3 sided 2200.00. Local building stand for 750.00 bucks. All getting built now. Will do build thread when it arrives

I am purchasing a new home and looking to upgrade to an 8 foot tank. I was told that this is no longer avialble from any of the standard size manufacturers by my local fish store. Anyone know if this is correct or if I'd have to go custom or wait for craiglist? I got a quote for a 96x24x24 for $3,600 (glass) seems kind of high based on what some people have posted here.

:headwalls:Yeah GC should be cheaper. But some are leery of work they do. I'm also debating on my next build. Glass or acrylic? And size.:headwalls:

Glass cages was quite a bit cheaper ($1,000 less but that included the stand and canopy) but I have read very mixed reviews on the quality of the seams and not sure if they deliver direct to you (sounds like you have to meet them somewhere?). Anyone have a tank made by them in this size range that can share their experience? I suppose if the acrylic versions are better and you don't have to worry about the seams I would be open to going that route.

I have about $3K invested in my 210 setup. If I had bought everything brand new, it would be 4 times this amount. There's plenty of clean, high quality equipment to be had in this hobby if you're patient and have cash on-hand for what you want! Obviously, anything custom for YOU specifically will be a pretty penny in this game!
