i was wondering if haveing me catch all my fish from my reef tank iand putting them into my quarenten tank is stressful for the fish or should i just use kick ick and let the strongest survive? accourding to my local salt water fish store he recomend to let strongest survive. i was hopeing i can get opinions from other fish carers.

also is have 24hrs of light bad for shark or other fishes?

I have studied stress in fish extensively and have been published on the subject many times. Ich and external parasites in general are stressors. Your fish have the best chance of survival using a proven cure for ich. You can minimize the stress and odds of having a disease outbreak in your display tank in the future by practicing proper quarantine of all new fish PRIOR to adding them to your display tank. You can also minimize stress by keeping a cycled quarantine up and running at all times so your fish do not have to suffer from ammonia and water quality issues. Leaving the fish in your tank and using one of the so-called reef-safe treatments is the easiest thing to do, but far from the right thing to do.

Yes, an unnatural photo period is very stressful to fish.

So he recommended letting the strong survive? Probably can't wait to sell you more fish when the others die

In order to rid your fish and your system of ich, you must remove ALL of your fish, place them in qt for treatment and allow your main to run fallow for 4-6 weeks
Products like Kick ick are hit and miss..mostly miss. Yes its a royal pain to remove your fish, I have done it. But this could have been avoided by placing all new fish in qt for 4 weeks before they are placed in your main. Its not the fishes fault that this very important step was skipped and I think it unfair and cruel to leave the fish to suffer and die because of it. You obviously care or you wouldn't be here..I think you know what needs to be done..
Good luck to you
:)

Well, I type really slow...Terry beat me..thought I'd be the only one here at this hour:rollface:

so it isnt streeful for the fish for me to try to get them out and into the quarenten tonight so that i can cure my reef tank once and for all? also, with the quarenten tank all i have to do is use the hypo method and itll kill all the ick in 40 days as for the reef just keep using kick ick? what do u think will work. any reply is a good reply.

dbig14life,

You didn't seem to read the posts closely if you're still asking the question about stress and moving fish. Or maybe you just don't want to perform the hard work of curing your fish? Of course it's stressful on the fish to move them. It is more stressful for them to suffer through a debilitating, deadly, disease.

You're asking something like, "Should I move my grandma to the hospital for pneumonia treatment or let her rest quietly in bed and see if she survives?" Your grandma's move to the hospital will be stressful, but is her ultimate comfort, longer life, and reduced stress of the disease not the real goal?

Catching fish can be accomplished many different ways. Here are some suggestions in this thread:

There is no guarantee kill time using hyposalinity. Much can go wrong. It takes the proper equipment, close attention, and diligent work to perform the hyposalinity treatment properly and successfully. It takes a considerable amount of care.

You asked for any reply. I think my best suggestion would be to stop putting fish in your tank and maybe stick to a fishless reef tank. By asking the same question in a different way, it sounds as if you don't want to do the work even after being told that is the right thing to do. So I don't imagine you'd want to do the hard job of hospitalizing and treating your fish with known cures. Just a thought. . .

that is not true. i just want whats best for my fish. i am fairly new and have a lot to invest. so its not like i dont care or dont want to do it is just that im very percausious.i dont want to loose another fish. and the questions i ask i dont seem to ask exactly what i im looking for or at the time dont have all the knowledge and objects current to do the quarenten tank. so i dont care a lot for my fish, im looking for the best and most effective eay to treat them as well as my reef and anemones.

Agree with Terry and Lee. Kick Ich doesn't really kill ich.

I thought I already posted in your other posts that only two proven cure is copper and hypo. Or could be someone else.

Your LFS must love you if you keep letting them suck your bank account.
