I have a compact that gives out around 260 watts and has been working great for my 55g. But i'm moving up to a 90g so will that still be enough light or do i need to move up?

As of right now i only have soft corals.

I'm guessing you are building a true reef and plan on increasing the types of coral you plan to keep. The stuff in the 55 will probably expect twice the light in nearly twice the tank. Well, actually it won't increase overall illumination by doubling the watts supplied but you will want to stay in the same watts per gallon range.

It may be time to contemplate a switch to better lights with the change. Using T-5 or MH and T-5 will greatly expand what you can keep. My Lighting Thread will better explain your options.

I run about the same wattage on my 92g. The soft corals I keep now, xenia, mushrooms, GSP etc all do very well.

But

I am however looking to upgrade because they could be doing better, and I'd like to keep other things as well.

I think upgrading the tank is the perfect time to upgrade the lighting as well.

What kind of watts per gallon should I be shooting for?

Whats the average price of a T5 and where should i look for one?
