How much magnesium does your tank consume?

Do most sps keepers have a separate dosing pump for mag since it seems to require daily dosing? I see mentions of 2 part dosing all the time, but don't come across 3 part dosing.

I dose 100 ml of ESV magnesium per day, with a third LM3 dosing pump, in my 275 net system just to keep it between 1350 and 1400.

I dose 5ml per day of Randy's recipe, I also use Deltec salt for my water changes which comes in pretty high in Mag. I like to keep my Mag levels high 1450-1500 and I have a 376+ gal Sps tank

I dose 3 supplements with dosing pumps and a controller - alk, ca and mag. My mag pump runs 18 minutes 4 times a day, or 72 minutes. That pump puts out 1.5mls / min (I measured), so my 150g system volume is consuming 108mls / day. My mag was at 1600 last test last week. I'm keeping slightly elevated to finish off some bryopsis.

I make my mag supplement from BRS's mag chloride and mag sulfate. 5 cups mc and 3 cups ms mixed with RO/DI water to make a gallon of solution.

This is interesting, apparently each tank is different. I would have thought there would be a set correlation between alk/cal/mag but it appears there is not. My tank uses 1.4dkh per day 20ppm cal and no mag. I stopped testing mag because it is always 1350 on the nose. I realize it is being replenished with wc's but it stays there whether I do a wc in 2 weeks or a month. Maybe Randy will chime in

5ml in a water volume that big probably isn't doing anything. My guess is all your mag is coming from that salt. 5ml in my tank doesn't do anything, and I have a third of your water volume. That is to say that if Randy's recipe is equally as potent as say BRS Mag solution

Using a Bubble Magus triple doser:
ml's per day.

Cal: 69
Alk: 64
Mg: 39

I use Coralife salt. 15-20 % wc every two weeks

in my old system i never needed to dose, but oh how this has changed in my new 120g stacked tank

my current dosing is
500ml cal per day (recipe 1)
235ml alk/day (recipe 1)

i dose lab grade mag chloride granule at 6 tablespoons daily to maintain at 1200 on salifert

i need another DP for this to make a solution.

I have started to manually dose about 50-90ml (2-3 oz) of randy's 2 part every 2 to 3 days to keep in the 1350-1410 range. Since I started to dose (about 2 months ago), my corals have started to take off again. Eventually I will most likely use a doser and figure out a daily consumption rate (which will gradually increase as my frags grow into colonies and use more Mg++). Smaller doses more frequently seem much better than larger less often doses....from experience..:hmm2:

How much media does your Calcium reactor hold and how much neomag do you have in there?

I also use Neomag in my Ca Reactor and am quite happy. I followed the label and added in a ratio of 9:1 argonite to mg. Seems to be working quite well for me. Keeps my mg up to around 1300 to 1400 and my Ca to upper 400's and sometimes to 500.

Thanks, I think? What's wrong with the numbers. I have read on the forums people keeping Mg at 1500, Ca always 480. What am I missing?

I have a 75 gallon + 20 gallon sump and is still an 'immature' SPS tank. I dose 13 mL of Magnesium daily. I keep magnesium between 1400-1450.

I can't hold Mg, Ca or Alk. I have a ton of SPS Small dosing and my reactor keep things nice and stable.

wow awesome to see this post come back to alive. I was actually doing some research on this because I recently got a bubble magus 3 part doser and I wanted to start dosing mag daily. I have a 75g display + 12" rimless + 40b sump. Its a new tank and frags are small. I figured out I need about 40ml of mag a day. I run that a few days and test back to see what differences there are.

45g SPS tank.. Balling light via Profilux doser and I dose 40ml of Mag daily to keep Mag at 1350..

i know there is a lot of dosing, which is annoying to fill up containers all the time. i am offloading several pieces to reduce the load.

BTW this is keeping my cal at only 380 and alk at 6.7
