how much salt do I mix???????????//

I was wondering how much salt should I mix per a 5 gallon bucket. I did a half of cup. Put the salt in and waited. I checked it with the hydrmeter. Nothing happened. I added another cup and a half. The salt was right on. I put it in my tank. I checked it againg. No its a very high reading. Its past the green mark. Can someone tell me how to mix it. Im new to this hobby

What type of salt are you using? I use instant ocean, mix 2 1/2 cups per five gallons to get a SG of 1.026. I use a refractometer. What is the green mark on the hydrometer?

I use instant ocean also... and 2 1-2 cups per half gallon.

Are you using the hydrometer correctly... make sure you rinse it out first to free the arm, then slowly put it in the water so that it fills with no air bubbles, if you do have small are bubbles tap the hydrometer to free them from the arm. This should get you a good reading.

Sometimes two hydrometers are better than one.

Im using instant ocean salt. The LFS said it should be about1.023-1.025. I added about 2.5 cups. It was right. Than I put it in the tank. And the needle went way up. Is that normal. Fir that to happen

Not trying to be smart, but did you mix it before you added it to the tank? I would say keep checking the hydrometer and the needle will fall back down... is the water in the tank moving?

The water was filtering. I did mix it before I put it into the tank
