How much water flow?

I run a mixed reef and have about 10X water turn over as base line water flow, and then I have multiple water surges that go up to 50X for a total of about 6hrs. Is the enough?

I guess these if the age old question of how much water flow do tanks really need?

That is a pretty good amount of flow for mixed reef but if you are planning to keep sps you may need to raise the rate up. As long as it is not ripping your softies apart more is better.

I run 45X all the time on my mixed reef and everyone seems to love it. Personally I would "kick up" the 18 hrs of down time at 10x. All the downtime is doing is allowing the detritis to settle into the rock work. JB
