How much would you pay for efflo?

Steve,

Contact your local vet and ask them to sell you a couple of tablets of Chloraphenical. It's an anti-biotic used for horses and large dogs.

It should be a large yellow pill. set up a bucket, or plastic shoe box with your tank water. Pop in a small powerhead and cut the pill in 1/2 to let it dissolve.

Let the coral bathe for up to an hour - The time depends on how quickly the water temp drops in the bucket. I work outside so the temp drops quickly.

Be careful handling the pill - Wear gloves, and don't breathe in the dust when you cut it.

Once your done with the water, make sure you dump it in the toilet, not in the yard, it's harmful to plants and animals (Isn't that strange).

After the chlora dip, try a Lugol's Dip ( I use 2 eyedroppers per 1g) and let that sit for up to an hour.

2 days of this stops most bacterial infections and sometimes stops the loss of tissue.

Ouch, that sounds like more stress to a coral. Would you recommend waiting a few days?

Steve, we have faith in you. Im not worried.

Invinc,

95% of my corals come from the LAX wholesalers. They are corals that arrive stressed, RTN'ing, Damaged, Shattered.

Since I added the Chloraphenical bath to my acclimation process, the survival rate of the corals has gone up considerably.

OK... time for an update. The efflo stopped sliming/ sheading. It is hard to say exactly what is just bleached and what is tissue loss... especially since my lights are now in the off cycle..... no polyps are yet visible. I have it in high flow and off to the side away from direct light for a few days at least.

Dave... thanks for the tip... I will pick some chlora up as soon as possible. I'm not sure that I should treat it as of yet... It seems to have stabilized. It's certainly bleached and I would hate to stress it further if I see no further rapid decline. Here's a photo as of about an hour ago:

Good luck, Steve!

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to save it. Efflos can recover quickly. I've also seen your coral in person and it is the "BEST" efflo I've ever seen! I hope the best for that baby! Sounds like it's stabilizing as we speak.

I have an efflo frag that was half bleached and within days, the frag completely healed and now is doing great!

scubadude,

This thread is specifically about an incredible efflo that Steve Weast purchased. He was saying that it didn't look good and he wasn't sure if it was going to make it.

That's why you got that response to your post.

At $40, that is one of the most attractive efflos I have ever seen.
Weird shape but you can alter that, snip snip.

Steve,
I am sorry, when I originally posted I didnt read all the post admittedly and now see that you have bought this piece and the current conversation when I posted was around the ill health of your coral....It is a BEAUTIFUL piece and I wouldnt have even posted my picture believe or not if I would have read all the post in this thread. I now see that it was tacky on my behalf. I do hope yours will prevail.
