how much would you pay for this pair

True what rare angels said EXCEPT I now have Snowflake looking clowns that are 100% Amphiprion percula. Esentially they are poor examples of Picasso clowns in that instead of connected bars they have almost completely white bodies!

That is why I said 3 times retail would be fair. They are still just a clownfish. If everyone would quit bandwagon jumping and spending outrageous amounts for things in this hobby when they are deemed popular, we would not see $600 for a pair of clowns with excessive barring or acans on eBay for $1000...

fish that are hundreds of times less likely to be produced should really only be three times the price?

Production of these kinds of fish is far more work because you have to breed so many to end up with a few pairs like this.

So this is not a birth defect?

more like selective breeding for abnormal white coloration.

Does a pair of "snowflakes" produce only "snowflake" lavae?

no, but they are more likely to produce them.

Let's see, I paid something like $3500 for my wife's pair so.............mmm never mind.

Supply & demand.. Couple of years they will more common, once we get a few more breeders. Someone could make some decent money with a pair of these.

Someone already is making money off of this fish.

Usually the normal mark-up for livestock at an LFS is at least 2-3 times wholesale. The last time I checked a few weeks ago a pair of Snowflakes were selling at $238 wholesale. So that $600 does not sound unreasonable, although I wouldn't pay that much and I own Snowflakes. I don't think you are going to find too many LFS owners, that want to stay in business, sell them for less than wholesale + shipping. Supply is definitely a big factor. Look at the $3500 Clarion Angel that LA has. I was paying $40 for them 20 years ago but now that collection is restricted the price goes up dramatically.
I also have beautiful pairs of Onyx, PNG Perculas, Bright orange Ocellaris, B&W Ocellaris, Akindynos, & Allardi but the Snowflakes are by far the most fascinating and unique clownfish I have.
