I started off so well...... I paid $150 for a 29G tank with 2 clowns, condi anemone, 50 lbs of fiji rock, 2 powerheads, heater, a coralife 70w PC light, glass cover, all test kits, hydrometer, buckets, tubing, a years worth of salt ect...... (did not have a protein skimmer).

it's all been downhill from there and now I'm in for probably a G a year later

Well, lets see.

$1200 for tank, stand, canopy, dual 250w halides, acrylic sump, a Panworld 50px-x and a Panworld 100px.

Well after have the sump form a very small crack I decided to buy a new one and get a second Panworld 100px pump.

So here is the total.

$1200 (for the above listed)
$ 890 (dual Tunze 6100's)
$ 500 (EuroReef RS8-2)
$ 225 (new sump)
$ 115 (for second Panworld 100px)
$ 150 (for all new plumbing)
$ 75 (for timers and fans for hood)
$ 65 (penductors)

$3220 but I am sure there is more I am forgetting.

I'd say $50/g for each tank, give or take. All three tanks added together equal 100g, so somewhere around $5000 but that's everything from equipment to fish, rocks, sand, coral, salt, RO system and additives like Ca and alk. Still... $5000 :eek:

About $12K after my new Tunze 6200s.

I still have some stuff to sell from my 120, but you know that goes for pennies on the dollar.

well, i am proud to say that with equipment, DIY sump,fuge,stand, and canopy, my 180g will cost me around 3000$

i'm a cheapskate :D

I decided to stop counting at the point when I realized that I've spent twice as much as my original budget.

What's really surprised me is the cost of the closed loop. That's one I really underestimated.

50 gallon

$105 Acrylic Glasscages
$125 Sump, Skimmer, Skimmer Pump (used from LFS)
$40 Return Pump (QuietOne 3000)
$15 Heater
$40 Used 175w MH + two used bulbs
$100 Plumbing
$100 Lumber for stand
$50 Acrylic for overflow and sump baffles
$50 Shipping and other stuff (just a guess)

$625 So far (12.5 $PG)

Let see... I spent $3000 on the used setup which included..

1 x 210 gal reef ready tank
45 gal oceanic sump
MRC 2 skimmer
all plumbing etc
Hammerhead 3750 gal perhour closed loop pump
skimmer pump
return pump
I am well over 5000 gal per hour.
3 x 250 watt MH and Ice cap ballasts
2x 80 actinic with Ice cap ballasts
200 lbs of live rock with zoos and other corals
200 lbs of live sand that I wound up throwing out all but a little bit. I did find a Queen Conch in the sand and it is doing great.
hand full of Cheatomorphia
Power station and timers
2 sweet heaters and PH monitor
A few other miscellaneous bits of crap that we all need to run our tanks.

After that I bought a bunch of coral and fish. I don't think I have spent to much. All things considered...

Lisa
