How often are you dosing Mag?

My tank is finally past the point where I can keep up with Mag demand by water changes. I know this will greatly vary by tank but on average, for those that dose manually, how often are you adding Mg?

Mine dropped to 1290 and it took 16 oz bottle of Kent Tech - M over a week and a half to get it above 1350. This will not be economical so I am ordering the BRS 2 part.

It is looking like I will need approx 4 oz solution a week to keep up at current growth.

I use zeomag in my reactor, so never. But when I don't have one running I just dump some in every week if I can remember. I use Kent tech m because it helps keep bryopsis in check. When the big three are steady I have noticed the best growth and healthiest coral so it's a good idea to dose like you plan too. I often forget to check it when I don't have my reactor online.

I add the equivalent of 20ppm per week (~27tsp of sea chem reef advantage mag). I have a 150 gal tank with many SPS... and do 25gal water change every two weeks.

But in all seriousness, every time I check my mag, which is once every few months its right where it needs to be (1320-1370 range Salifert). I dump some in just because I made it when I set up my 2 part but not because I feel I need it. I do a WC usually every week about 10% and I occasionally will skip a week and go up to 15-20%. I've never gone more than 3 weeks without a WC.

Anyone else observe this? I dose 2 part so no other source of mag other than 2 part. My tank is 85-90% acros and most are large frags to minicolonies, with some tiny frags in the mix. I would not say my 2 part demand is crazy, YET, but it continues to go up. Just curious I guess like the OP.

I have been diligent with my water changes too and until recently had been keeping up. Aside from a birdsnest, nothing is even close to a colony and everything I had read made it seem like mag uptake was slow. Or at least thats how i interpreted what I have read.

The Ca and Alk products I use have Mg (and other trace elements) in them, so never on it's own but several times a day with Ca and Alk. I have had my Mg spot checked at the LFS and it is always around 1350. My tank is fairly packed at this point in time.
