How often do you add buffer to adjust alkalinity???

Here's why, I have not had to add any during the past year since going to Type 1 (LAB QUALITY) water and tropic marin calcium. Simply adding 3 scoops every other day and calcium/alk remain in the high ranges 450 ca / 11dkh alk?

Verified testing results with local shop? I just figured at some point an adjustment is going to be required for alkalinity? Seems odd to me but growth of corals doesnt lie as everything is growing and maintaining great color.

Tank is 125 that is completely stocked (literally, jammed!)with large amount of soft corals and three large hammers and frogspawn, couple rose anemones.

Do you do regular water changes? I would think you would need to add alk also. Maybe the tropic marin product raises alk too?

I add Calcium and Alk every day for both of my tanks and then magnesium every week to maintain 425 ca, 10 dkh, and 1300 mg

Water changes are typical 10-15% every 1-1.5 months. I find it very interesting that you add something for alk everyday and I havent had to add anything for loooonnnnnnngggg time.

If you have any spare time, would like to stop over one evening and check out your tank

Very strange, I don't think your water changes are adding back the alk if you only do 10-15% per month. That Tropic Marin calcium must have something in it for alk.

It would be interesting to take a gallon of your water and test the alk and then add the tropic marin and test again.

Tropic Marin Bio Calcium adds both Calcium, and Hydrogencarbonate, in addition to all 70 Trace Elements found in sea water. Essentially it is an ALL IN ONE as opposed to ESV B-Ionic, or Randy Holmes Farley's, two part solution. It is a good product, but some people like to add specific additives to target certain levels, Magnesium for example. In conclusion you haven't had to add any Alkalinity Buffer because you already are. Hope this explanation helps. If your levels are within exceptable ranges, and you are happy with how your tank is doing, I wouldn't change anything.

I add both alk buffer and calcium Chloride every day to keep my readings in check.

I also test every day which is the only reason I dose every day.

I keep it steady at 8-9dkH alk and 400-440ppm calcium

I don't dose anything I don't test for. I also do water changes every 3 weeks if not every 2 weeks and 10% to 20% each time.

I have had great results with this method.

thanks,

Rick
