How often do you guys clean out your protein skimmer???

The neck of mine comes off with the cup. I get some excellent thick sludge build up in the neck, especially if I'm slow cleaning the cup. Mmm mmm good.

What's simmer are you running? Happy with it? I'm using the euroreef rs-80 and it pulls A LOT of gunk out so I was thinking it might be warranted to upgrade eventually.

I have almost 10 year old EuroReef CS 8-2. Has been doing a good job for me and I am happy with it. I replaced the pump impeller every couple of years when it got cranky about restarting, and last year replaced the pump entirely (Sedra 5000).

There have been improvements in skimmer design and efficiency since my skimmer was manufactured. Grant played with one double pump beast last year that he felt did too good a job.

For my father inlaw tank, I got an old euro reef. It is 12" diameter, and 24" high. And uses two sedra pumps.
