how often do you magfloat algae off glass?

Okay, so all this talk about keeping nitrates, phosphates down to minimize algae... I'm wondering do you all still have to wipe the glass at the end of every day with the magfloat to keep it clear, even with snails?

I have low phosphates, nitrates, but still finding that I have to be good about wiping the glass clean every day when I get home. I think if I went w/o magfloating for 3+days, there would be a decent film of brown algae all over...

Is this normal or abnormal?

Thanks,

Daily. Keeps it clean. Found out my 6 yr old was able to reach behind the tank and clean the glass where I've been trying to grow coraline algae. I found the outer half of my mag float behind the tank and the inner part on a powerhead. I thanked her for helping, but said I wanted the coraline back there.

I do mine every 5 to 6 days, Installing a UV will aid in killing free floating algae spores and in turn will keep the glass clean longer.

When I see a green film looking longways down the length of the tank. Usually once a day, sometimes every other day.

yeah agree with you landlord - sometimes you can't tell there's much algae looking straight on the glass, but if you look down the length of the tank from the side, you can often see films of algae forming... maybe i'm just picky

Twice a week. But caution! My 14 year old son managed to scratch my acrylic right exactly at eye level after he trapped a tiny snail between the acrylic and the back (wrong side) of the internal scrubber half. Daddy needed a drink when I got home that night.

every 3 days or so, and yes, if you look down the length of the glass you can see more than when looking straight through.

every day usually, though it will go 3 days before I really notice anything on there.

Ditto. Not bad considering I'm sumpless.

Every other day for my tank. I don't see any algae at all looking sidewards at my glass after 1 day, but by 3 days, it's pretty bad in my picky eyes. Every other day for me keeps up with it before I can see much, and cleaning is much quicker.
