How often do you trim/cull/thin/remove cheato?

Usually confused...
This is probably my own stupid misunderstanding :headwally: , but in my research over problems with my non-ending fight with hair algae, I just came to the bright realization (from reading tons of threads) that I should be removing a major portion of my cheato regularly to enable it to re-grow, and then help out-compete my GHA. ( I do run GFO, but I think all of my "well-cured" rock I filled my 165 with was indeed, not).

How often do you empty out your cheato, and how far back do you cull it? Half? 1/4?

I thin out the chaeto about every 2 weeks. If I go any longer than that, it completely blocks all light from all the macro growing underneath it. I trim it from about a 1 square foot area to the size of about a softball.. it grows super fast.

+1 for me. Maybe three weeks from time to time.

I thin out about twice a year. But when I do I take it so far back that I barley have any in to restart with. Maybe a golf ball size if I ball it all up.

Also with my fights with GHA I seem to have better results from Seachem PhosGuard than with GFO.

Twice a year? Wow. Here is 8 days growth in my fuge

Couldn't go much longer than a couple weeks

Every 2 weeks mine needs to be thinned. I will take out at least half at a time. I also have red, blue, white and green LEDs on my light fixture over the fuge. The highest number of LEDs are the red and blue. I run my fuge light opposite my main tank lights with a one hour overlap on each end.

I have plenty between the 2 tanks. I am on Scottsdale and Mckellips. I should be around the house Sunday for most the day.

PM if interested.
