ok so i purchased a mandarin dragonette and guess what. i wake up this morning to find it in my quarantine tank with what? you guessed it. ICH. so how the heck do i treat this poor thing before adding it to my tank?

Yes, anytime before 22:30 on Friday. I prefer mornings before lights on, but time of day is not critical provided you do not exceed 72 hours between transfers.

If staying 30 minutes below the 72 hour mark this should be your schedule:

31.03.2015 - 22:30 Transfer into first tank
03.04.2015 - 22:00 Transfer to next tank
06.04.2015 - 21:30 Transfer to next tank
09.04.2015 - 21:00 Transfer to next tank
12.04.2015 - 20:30 Transfer to holding, quarantine or display tank

Set up a bottle with brine shrimp cysts. They should hatch within 2 to 3 days and then you have live food for him. He should be fine that long.
You should be able to get the cysts in every pet store that has a fish department.

Just make sure to strain and rinse the brine shrimp nauplia before feeding them to him as the water in the hatching bottle will be loaded with ammonia.

3 days? Really?

Mmm, you don't have sand in that qt, do you? Mandys are great at having sand stick to their slime coats: if it travels about, it's sand grains. For them to GET ich usually means water conditions where they were reached really, really bad levels. I've seen it but it's highly, highly unusual.

And you should not have sand in a qt during any treatment. Ich lives in it if it gets the chance.

It depends on the temperature and if they are normal or decapsulated cysts. 3 days is usually the time normal Artemia cysts need to hatch at a temperatures between 18 and 20ร‚ยฐC. Decapsulated cysts hatch usually a bit faster.

Yes, the mandarins' slime coat catches all kinds of dirt they stir up when going after pods. That's why you want to wait at least a day or two to make a diagnosis.

Also, if an mandarin has ich nodules they are not sharply defined as on most other fish but rather big slimy bumps. It looks quite severe even at low levels. If a mandarin is really sick he looks like dissolving to a slimy mass.

Is that what this mandarin has or did you just see some sharply defined whitish dots?

TTM is recommended in any case before putting him into your display dank.

Tank transfer went good. Mandarin is in great shape. Thanks guys. I have a copper band in quarantine refusing to eat though. Any suggestions? I don't have access to live food

Access to frozen blood worms? The CBB primer on here has a big list of suggestions food wise.

Good luck!

The absolute best, without question, option would be to order some live black worms online. If it won't eat this, it won't eat anything.

My CBB loves chopped up squid and shrimp. I buy a frozen ( uncooked) seafood mix at my local grocery store. $3 for a pound. Chop up into tiny pieces.

Frozen mysis is probably the next best choice. PE or aquatic treasure brands seem to have larger, meatier sized shrimp, and seem to be preferred over hikari and other brands.

Small earthworms are also an option according to Paul B, but I haven't tried them yet. Remember that CBB's are worm eaters.

Lastly, you could try fish roe, although I don't know a good source. When I used to have roe, no fish could resist it.

Where can I buy live black worms online? Do you have a good website? I ordered live brine fringe blue zoo aquatics bit they didn't ship them.

Try a clam on the half shell. I get the fresh ones at the grocery store and freeze first to make sure no parasites come with.

OK good news. So I did frozen brine today and he ate it. No problem. The only fish in having trouble getting to eat now is this multibar angel

What the heck happened!!!! I came home today to this!!

Nothing is in there that can do this. The emperor in there can't get him in the tube he hides in. And the multibar angel isn't aggressive. He's doing the death swim now so he's obviously done

That's clearly a bite - so someone got to him and did this, no question about it. Hiding places don't prevent attacks and injuries if the fish doesn't stay in them all the time.
