I check/observe my tank everyday. When I feed I take an extra 10 minutes to observe everyone and make sure everyone looks healthy and happy, as a side effect this is also relaxing for me. My favorite part of the hobby other than the initial aquascaping. So 2 days ago, I noticed my small 2 to 3 inch yellow eye kole tang did not come out immediately for food but eventually circled up grabbed what I thought was less food than normal and went back into some rock work. I made a mental note that I thought he looked a little less fat than the previous week. Yesterday I came home late from work so maybe 22 hours later I fed my tank and no yellow eye kole tang. I searched the floor I have a screen but it does have a few gaps in the back. I searched the tank the overflow the sump nothing not a trace gone.
I am not asking why it died, I am wondering how long does it take for a fish to disappear? Had it died for whatever's cause I would have thought I would at least see a mound of shrimp and snails cleaning up the mess? I do have a small anemone which is a hair, bigger than this tang was. But the anemone was open and happy not balled up like when I feed it scraps. So can a tank really consume an entire fish in less than 24 hours?
