How rare are Purple Tang's getting?

Yep, that's the price the local Petco had them for. I wish I had a bigger tank, I would have gotten one because I'm sure I wont see that price again for a long time, if ever.

Depending on the Petco location and local demand, they actually can carry some unusual/are fish.

I however refuse to shop their due to personal reasons that I will keep out of this thread. But that is definitely a steal for a purple!

Wow, never seen anything other than damsels or clowns at our Petco. Not a aquarium shopper there anyway

Found some at my local petco for 105$. Very cool. The LFS here are super proud of them. Out petco has picasso clowns and blasto frags.

even here there is some problems and i am waiting for more than 4 month now and the divers dont dive because inspections capture them

There were at least 200 of them in Hong Kong last week. They seem to come in waves - not consistently in stock. Price wise they are $50 here.

Yes. All Red Sea fish are at a premium because of Mid-East trouble. I think most fish used to be shipped out of Yemen; then there was a bomb scare there and Fed-Ex either pulled out or made the inspection process impossible. This started before the Egypt-Libya revolts.

like tuskfish said its getting then out of the collection site that is cauing price increase for all red sea fish.

Not so rare if you know where to look. We have some now, a good amount too. sohals as well, but they are not great sellers. been trying to get baby RS regals, but the smallest i've gotten so far has been 3" (which is still a great size)

Purple Tangs used to sell for ~$300 Canadian in the '80s. Indexed for inflation todays prices seem quite reasonable.
