How SAFE are the quick connects! Scared!

I'm curious to know how safe the quick connects are for example the RO/DI filters that I see that are mounted on walls. I have an RO/DI unit and always turn the water off at the source so its only on when producing water.
I also see them on BRS reactors that run 24/7 and mounted on walls.
I prefer everything in the sump incase of a leak.

How SAFE are those little plastic quick connects?:worried2:

So long as they are installed right, i.e. nice squared off cuts on the hose and shoved on all the way, they work like a charm ;)

What Bill said. I have used them on my tank and at work for years with no problems. And some of the stuff going through them at work is alot harsher than water.

So no one has ever had any issues with them coming disconnected with water pressure. Good to know. I feel a bit better about installing them outside the tank

The BRS ones are the best because they have two gaskets inside: this holds the hose securely at two points and keeps it from flexing in the fitting. They also sell little plastic circlips to keep collet from getting pressed in accidentally, but these are usually unnecessary.

That said, some quick connect fittings out there are less than ideal. I'm very unimpressed with the ones that come on AquaFX RODI fittings. There's a lot of play in the hose and if you have an application where there's some side pressure on the fitting it can leak. You can yank on a BRS fitting from every direction and not worry about drips!

+1. The only time I have seen these type fittings leak is when the tube bends severely to one side as it enters the fitting, which causes the o-rings in the QD to not seal. Those locking clips mentioned earlier help in those cases.

I wouldn't use them on any high pressure line, but normal city water pressure has never caused so much as a drip from mine. I wouldn't put any tugging force on the line though..

(I have had plastic water line Y splitters break apart in the middle of the night..)

I have the same style plastic fittings on the airbag suspension of my truck. They see 100psi and the shock load from going over bumps with a load in the bed. They are awesome little buggers.

Never had an issue with the ones from BRS, and they make a point about using the quick connects with the two gaskets. If you go on their site they have a few videos about their RO/DI systems, and will explain the quick connect to you in better detail.
