How sensitive are skimmers?

I have a standard 55gal with a Colarlife 65 skimmer that has been humming along just fine for 2 months now. Tonight I brought home a couple of clownfish and a blenny then added stress coat. My skimmer went haywire and overflowed. I turned the intake down quite a bit until it catches back up. Is this common?

yes stress coat will make most skimmers go haywire but the coralife is excessively sensitive as is (to water level changes and adjustments amongst other things).

Yeah pretty common, any thick gel type water conditioners are going to make the skimmer go crazy. May I ask my you are using stress coat?

I've noticed it for different additives in the tank, and even from VOCs when painting the house.
