How to adjust a NEW AquaC EV120

I just picked up a new EV120 with a mag5. I read the directions which said to open the gate valve and air valve completely which I did. How do you know if the air valve is open since it doesn't tell you which side is open and which side is closed (horizontal or vertical). I assumed that it's whatever setting that creates the most bubbles? Right now, my skimmer cup is continously overflowing with bubbles. Is there something I'm missing? The skimmer is in my sump and the return water is above the sump water level. Thanks!

Yeah, opening the air valve creates more bubbles (you're letting in more air).

Did you wash the skimmer really well before setting it up? AquaC's can have residual oils on them from manufacturing you need to rinse off. It's hard to tell from your description if it's operating correctly or just needs to be adjusted/dialed-in further.

I soaked it in hot water for about an hour before I used it. When I closed the valve, the bubbles ftop forming and does not overflow anymore. When I open it all the way, the skimmer bubbles A LOT and overflows.
