How to become a member?

Kinda new to the area (Massillon/Canton) and would like to become a member or C-Sea, is there a membership or something?

I've got a 50ish gallon home made cube, and would really like some input on my system.

I am also interested in some info/help on an upcoming project of moving my sump to the basement. I'll post some pics soon.

Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks Erik, printed out the application and will send in soon.

Can I post pictures and ask for advice before becoming a member, or should I wait?

Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks,

Well, the tank started a few years ago when a friend of mine and I built the tank out in AZ (where I was working at the time). Shipped it home and built a stand. It's a 50ish gallon cube with back wall overflow to sump/fuge below. Return pump is a OR 2500 and CL pump is a OR 3500, skimmer not in use at the moment. Light is a 250 watt MH with a 14k Phoenix bulb, and moonlight. The tank has been running for about 10 months now.

Am in the planning stages of moving the sump/fuge to the basement. One reason for this it for heat control, it's cooler down there, the other reason is so i can run the ASM 2 skimmer. Had it running in the stand but it was kinda loud for the wife, the tank is right next to the couch.

Please have a look at the following pictures and feel free to add your critique or questions. Would love some input and advice on the basement sump. I have some plans in mind but would love some others input.

Like I said, i would really like your input. I'm still kinda new at the reef thing and would love to learn more.

Thanks for looking,
Jeff

In re-reading my post, I realized in never introduced myself. My name is Jeff my wife is Candy and we have two little ones Hannah just turned 2 and Ryan just turned 1. My wife and I are both RN's and moved back to Ohio about a year and half ago to be closer to family. I've been interested in SW fish for about 10 years now, but only the past 3 years or so have been into reefs. This tank has been a real learning experience for me, and I realize there is a lot more I need to learn.

Its definitely been a larger project than I ever anticipated. I am just glad its turning out ok. Otherwise, I would have had about a dozen "I told you so's".

Great cube. I really like cube-ish tanks. I like the stand, too. Did you have a build thread going in the main reef forum a while back? I ask because the design looks so familiar to one of the many build threads I was following. Those wooden fish sculptures on top of the tank seem familiar too.

Anyway, welcome back to the area. What did you use for the faux back ground? It's hard to tell from the pics.

Nice setup. Hope you do get to join and make it to the meetings. We have a lot of fun and some good conversation there. You never know when you will take home some livestock of dry goods from the raffle either.

One thing that has been a great help in setting up a 92g corner tank in our dining area is using "the Herbie Method" on my drains so there is no noise at all from the water going down to the basement. It is otherwise referred to as the full-siphon drains.
The theory is to restrict your main drain with a gate valve and have a second drain that will kick in if there is ever a blockage in the main. Without any air entering the drain you don't get ANY noise and there is also no bubbling on the other end where it comes out into the sump. That also means no salt creep from all the bursting bubbles. I flow around 700 gph through a SeaSwirl and dump it into a display tank in the basement and it is totally silent.

Here's a link to the Herbie thread.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Kevin, I hope to make it to a meeting within the next few months. Time is kinda tight with both my wife and I working and trying to juggle babysitters and our call schedules. I think that if I become a member of a group and have some support, I'll enjoy this hobby even more.

Thanks also for the link. Think I'll give it a go on the drain line going into the basement sump. I hope to put up some plans soon and get some ideas from you all.

Jeff
