In about November 2016 I setup a tank similar to what you are planning for my 2 sons. Mostly LPS and polyps. No skimmer and I use a macro-algea reactor to control nutrients. I do a 5 gallon water change once a month. To keep up with alk and calcium I added a smart ato micro and put a little bit of kalkwasser in the top-up water. With this I only do major maintenance once a month.
My nitrates are less than 5, phosphates are .01
3 fish - 2 small clownfish, a pajama cardinal
1 coral banded shrimp
2 snails
3 micro hermits
small cobalt aquatics heater
fluval aquaclear HOB filter - this is my mechanical filtration and forces water through my carbon

I have a Apex Jr on the tank but I got a great deal during black friday and used some BRS points.
