how to catch a hippo tang?

Does anyone have an idea on how to catch and remove a hippo tang from a 125gal reef tank. I have two and they are becoming mature and fight constantly and I need to remove the smaller one. HELP

Maybe try and net him during feeding? But in a reef tank, you cant move the rocks... so it's going to be tuff.

throw the lights on in the middle of the night and catch him while he is asleep.

Acrylic trap. If you are smart with it, it will work.

Just feed the tank exclusively from the trap. Make them go in to eat. Then, after a week or so of them getting comfortable, close the door.

I haven't tried this but a friend of mines works for a LFS and he uses a trout hook, a small one and some line. He swears by it, and you can get them barbless so you won't moratlly wound the fish with it. Try it, it seems to work, especially for tangs, as they are/seem to be the greediest fish in everyones tank

AHHA try leaving ur net in a corner of the tank when ur feeding and then the hippo will get used to itbeing there then you can cacth him then or buy one of those plastic traps online

Last week I had to remove a powder brown from my 400 G.

I made a cylindrical net out of plastic chicken fence and zip ties. Put a piece of nori inside and weighed it down with a magnet. I attached a nylon wire to it and waited for the tang to swim inside to get the nori, then I yanked the net out of the water.... piece of cake

Here is a side shot, I had it lying on its side inside the tank like this:

I caught a damsel by using the tube from my python gravel clean er. All you have to load it with some frozen brine or mysis shrimp, and place it in the tank. Make sure u keep the food at the end of the tube. Guarantee the fish will go in and out as long as you don't mess with the tube. I just let them think that it was a new way of getting food. Then when I was ready to get rid of this one troublemaker damsel, I just loaded it up, and 5 minutes later, he was on his way to a new home. His friends have been so peaceful every since, lol.
