How to feed a stone fish?

Hi all,

I brought a stone fish home from the collection trip and noticed he is not eating the frozen/thawed mysis shrimp I always feed my other fish. Any suggestions on what to try next?

I am considering picking up live shrimp from the LFS to see if he goes after it. I haven't been able to find much information online and want to make sure this guy eats before he starves!!

Thanks in advance,

Joe

stonefish are from the south pacific so I wouldn't search specifically for info on them, although the care is probably the same. Must be some kind of local or tropical scorpionfish. I doubt any scorpionfish would turn down live grass shrimp. Once used to captivity you should be able to get him on to frozen and dry.

Thanks for the quick reply. My wife is on the way to the LFS to pick up some live food for this little guy. I'll keep everyone posted.

I'm pleased to report that the fish is eating very well. My wife picked up ghost shrimp from the LFS and he went to town. :)

Thank you all for the help/advice!

Carefully indeed! He's doing well in the tank (55 gal) and he's only about 1.5"

I think I've got some time before I really need to start worrying!

I was able to score a really interesting tropical scorpionfish while in Long Island. He has a black and white pattern and now has purple coralline algae polka dots from sitting so still. One of the coolest fish I've ever collected!
