how to flush RO membrane?

It's been so long since I've done it that I'm having problems remembering how. ARS, where I bought my original setup from, doesn't seem to have customer support anymore, so I was wondering if people can give me an idea of how to do this.

I have a flushkit installed on my system. I can't remember if I need to disconnect the system somehow in order to flush it out.

Start the water to the unit, open the flush kit valve to allow the output water to bypass the restrictor and allow the unit to run for 15 minutes.

I read somewhere that the flush kits are basically worthless and it does not need to be done. Its basically just a way for the MFG's to make another 15 bucks.

My flush is on the opposite end of a T to the waste line. So the waste water goes into the T and can either go out the right to the drain, or left through the valve to the drain. Kinda dusnt make sense to me, water has to go thru the T anyhow, so wats it matter if it goes through a ball valve or not?

I read the same thing from Melev.

If you hear waste water running when you make water you should hear the same thing only more. All you are doing with a flush valve is bypassing the flow restrictor and flushing the surface of the membrane. Everyone has different water quality and what may not be benefical in some areas has great benfit in others. Don't judge everyone elses water quality by your own experience.

You can also just unplug your waste water and take off the resister. Plug in the waste line and run the filter for 15 mins. Stop the filter, unplug the waste water line and place the restrictor again and plug the waste line again and you just saved $15 bucks but it does take a bit more time.
