i have a colony of blasto wellsi with about 14 heads, i want to frag a few of the smaller heads that grew on the under side of the rock. can i just use a cheap single edge blade?
I would use a dremel. Some people use a wet saw, but for a smaller blasto I would go the dremel route with a diamond blade. You will need to cut the skeleton running down beside polyp.
a single blade would probably won't work that efficiently... you will need to take at least a bit of the skeleton underneath the polyp like mentioned above to have a good survival rate. I also use dremel with diamond tip and be sure to rinse coral several times during cutting to prevent the heat generated by the friction to burn the polyps.
I tried using a razor blade to frag one, and it died. I would only use a dremel or bandsaw of some kind to take out the rock under it as well as the frag. They have a lousy survival rate if you cut them up.
i have another question, so after i cut the coral what should i do?? should I dip it in somthing like coral revive? or should i put it back in the tank??
