How to keep a wavebox from splashing over?

Okay,

I asked earlier if a wavebox would work on my long tank and it sounds like it would work too good. A 3" single wave would be way too tall and even a 1.5" double wave would be too tall I think.

How would I go about modifying the tank to allow for a 1.5" wave? Right now my water level runs about .5" below the bracing on my tank. The overflows are glass with 1" of eggcrate on the top to keep fish out of them.

Is my only option to cut or drill holes in the overflows to drop the water level?

Thanks, Nathan

As Sean said, I would be more in favor of tring to router down the overflow just because the bigger wave would be "getting your moneys worth"

So it does need the water level in the tank to be low enough to allow for the wave to keep from splashing over?

I had heard that the wave was more of a swell and it wouldn't really splash out of the tank?

I do have perimeter bracing, it is 3" on the ends of the tank and 2" on the front and back. Would that keep it from splashing out?

I'm not sure about cutting the overflows down. Seems risky.

Thanks, Nathan

Nathan,
I have a 750g that i'm having made and I am just drilling my overflow slots a bit lower to accomodate the wave from the waveboxes (which by the way are currently running on my 300g sump--very cool!)
I'm a little confused what you mean about "seems risky"---- in what sense?
Steve

Risky = cutting on a glass overflow box on a tank that has been up and running for 4 1/2 years.

I'm afraid of cracking the glass or something.

:)
I see---- that makes sense! :)

Those darn glass tanks........
Well, look on the brightside-- if it cracks down through the bottom you now have the excuse to go even bigger! :)

I probably wouldn't advise it then. You could turn it down on the driver but for a .5" wave I would feel cheated.
