how to keep blue

I bought a blue tort the other day and it is already starting to dull my water checks out to be:

nitrite-0
nitrate-0
amonia-0
ph- between 8.2 and 8.4

calcium-420
alkalinity- 3.5

i am testing with the saltwater master liquid test kit made by aquarium pharmaceuticals inc.

the blue on some tips is still there and on others has turned sort of a greenish color

I am also feeding cyclopese every 4 to 6 days and doing a water change between feedings

thanks

this is a 37 gallon tank with one 175 wat metal halide and 2 65 wat vhos the metal halide bulb is a xm 20k and the vho bu;bs are blue the bulbe is only about 5 months old so that wouldnt be a problem i also have great flow with the mag 750 that goes into a scwd and i have a euroreef 5-3 just fer info

Give it some time if you just got it they can fade due to stress of the new enviroment... different lighting and water parameters.... also if your tank is to sterile your corals will fade...... you need a little dirt and grunge to feed the corals... fish poop is best... how is your fish population by the way????

You need more flow. The Mag 7 puts 700 GPH out right after it leaves, but after it goes through the SCWD.. you are only getting about 350-400 GPH at best. Thats only 10x turnover. I'd look at a Seio 620 or even a 820.

well seios dont stay together to well so i wont buy one of those but maby another pump but anyway i have 5 fish a blue tang, solarenthes wrasse, circular wrasse, yellow watchman, and a red scooter blenny so i have fish waste and i feed alot almost to the point of overffeding but not quite there

just for looks

I think you definately need more flow. I have had a seio for over a year with no problems. I'm not sure that they "don't stay together well". For the price, they are a great powerhead.

Also, as previously said, give it more time. My ORA blue mille browned out when I first put it in and stayed that way for 2 months before it turned back blue.

Coral shouldn't brown out imo unless your tank is causing it. I've never heard of one Seio falling apart. I would add more flow and check phosphates. Phosphates and high nutrients cause brown out.

In my experience, corals can lose color when moving to a new environment. If light, flow, nutrient levels change - IME I'd expect it.

If your tank is full of colorful corals already, often corals will keep color just fine - but IME there's still 25% or so that will lose color before improving. [Sometimes to new colors, sometimes better/worse, sometimes the same ... unpredictably]

Some will take quite a long time to take off, color up again - but given that's an ability within the coral - good light, flow, water parameters, and stability will often recolor any coral given patience.

I'd check water parameters, flow ... and be patient.

well i picked up an efflo today that was brown at the shop and was polyping real nice and i hope that will color up real nice the main reasomn i took it is because the shape and also ithat is the first one i have seen and i love thos4e corals maby i can muster up a pick in a few days

I think its funny you say Seio's fall apart (Ive had mine about a year and its awesome) then you go out and buy a piece of junk powersweep! LOL

Give the NEW coral sometime to acclimate to your tank...

no i didnt buy it it came with the systm when i bought it was just hangin around so i threw it in i know they suck but i have had personal problems with seios i have bought three and they all crapped out on me

on the efflo subject do they like intense light, moderate or low lighting and do they like high, moderate or low flow?

I also moved the bluetip up a little higher because it was in high light and high flow when i bought it

ya i have but im goin to upgrade the pump soon anyway probably to a blueline 30-x and i ahve a maxijet 1200 i can put on there in the meantime. btu im honestly not worried flow wise cause right now i only have a 3 colonies of sps corals which is a green slimer, a blue tip acro and the efflo and all ae in good water flow so im sure that that is not the problem
