how to keep blue

I'd check your phosphates, they should be as close to 0 as possible. 0.01-0.02 seems to be a good level for SPS.
Also, try to balance the Calcium and Alkalinity levels. Try to get Alk around 7 DkH because that's close to NSW levels.

If you find that your phosphates are high then feed Cyclop-eez less often because your corals should be well fed by the fish poop.

I'd look into exchanging the powersweep for a MJ mod.

HTH

well my powersweep is not there to stay because i hate the ;look of power heads in the tank and i did a test for the alk that says cut the amount of drops u added in half once it turns a certain color so it took me 7 drops and i got 3. 5 from that and my phosphates are 0 thanks to my phosban reactor

IMHO...you should figure out your problems...prior to spending more hard earned $$ on new corals.....

Good light, LOTS of flow is what SPS's need...:), so i'd kick up that current a bit....you can always run an external closed loop with PVC???

P.S. I have a Seio 820 running for 2-yrs w/o an issue!

well my problems are with blue and the efflo isnt blue so i thought i wouldnt have aproblem and i have good light not as good flow but i still have 10 times turnover in the tank

make sure the efflo is in one of the more turbulent parts of your tank they are one of the harder to keep acros imo.if it is a colony that is wildcaught good luck.if its a frag you shouldnt have to many problems with it. i agree that its one of the nicest acro species to own!!if you need flow get some maxi jet 1200s if placed in the right spots they can really help!!

thanks and well its not a frag so i believe wild caught and ill get more flow on it adn keep ur fingers crossed for me

thanks

thanks i did buy what i thought would be sufficient but i guess i was wroung so i guess im buyin new pumps the one problem is my overflow because i have a mag 350 sitin around so i decided to hook it up and have it comin out the middle but my overflow cant handle it so im sorta screwed

Well, I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t mean to be rude, but it sounds like you need to do a lot more homework and invest in the right things if you are going to be keeping SPS. If you are using "saltwater master liquid test kit made by aquarium pharmaceuticals inc." then you really have no idea where your parameters are.

You need to get good Salifert kits, make sure all your levels are in check, get your flow straightened out, and get everything stable. After you do that, then I would start worrying about purchasing more SPSs corals.

Also if you are new to SPS don't try and keep wild pieces, get frags of hardy corals from locals, you have a much better chance of success. Even very experienced people can have problems with wild pieces.

Good luck on your future purchases and your current ones

well my tank has been stable because with those tests it has been zeros across the board for 4 months straight and i have ateempted sps before so im not new

but i agree that i need to look into upgrading my pump

does anyone know how much those kits are runnin because i work at an lfs and all we sell are the kit i have

with the wild frag i have never seen an efflo at an lfs out of the 2 years i have been doin sps( first year was pretty much capricornis and turbinaria, now this second i am tryin some harder to keep guys and no die off so far) so i had to grab and see how it will do.

and dont worry no offense taken wakefreak

Im having the same problem with flow from my return.Im adding a second u tube.As far as flo ive got 2 rio 1100 and a maxijet 1200.I wish i could make my mag 7 produce more so thats why im adding the second u tube.I also added a spray bar in hope for more flow as well.Good luck to you

no i didnt buy it it came with the systm when i bought it was just hangin around so i threw it in i know they suck but i have had personal problems with seios i have bought three and they all crapped out on me

You know mine all "crapped" out on me too after 6 weeks... they have a tendancy to get calcium deposits on the impeller magnet and housing which stops them from running. But an overnight soak in vinegar and they work as good as new...... Not necessarily stopped running they just need a little extra maintence....

thanx ill keep that in mind but im gona try another u tube i have one lying around so ill do that and sse if it will be cool with the mag 350

thanks

Are you talking about a Magnum 350 the canister filter? If so those are not made to return water, they don't deal very well with head hight.

Whiskey

Since there isn't a Mag 350, I assume you mean a Mag 3 at 350gph. Using the head loss calculator, it ends up with about 230 gph in your type of setup. That means 6.2x turnover in your tank. That's not nearly enough, especially for an efflo.
