All of the above is great. My .02 is that you should never buy anything, whether it is a fish,coral,salt,test kit or the latest gadget to hit the market, BEFORE you read about it and ask opinions here. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience on this site and that can save you $$$.
As others have said, forget your budget. But you can learn to keep a tank without breaking the bank once you stop buying things you don't need. Buy the right thing the first time, buy in bulk when you can, watch for sales and NEVER buy any livestock whose full grown size will not fit in your current setup.
