Put the power head on re-circ with separate in/outlet
Have the power head on a its own recirc cycle sucking in from a pipe pointed at the floor protected from bubbles inside a cut up food storage container domed over it and then blasting in parallel to floor (slightly upwards) through a 90 elbow along the bottle wall for swirling action. Have a separate inlet pipe at top of water column in a T facing into the swirl (could also just use a 90 elbow pointed parallel to floor, not downwards). Exit pipe going from floor up to approximate desired water height with an output valve to fine-tune the height.
Chop the top area off the two liter bottle to get inside it. Cut off the top of a three liter with diameter slightly larger than opening left in 2 liter and silicone that on. Slide the body of another two-liter bottle over the top for collection area and silicone it. Make small hole at the low point for collection drip hose, silicone it to skimmer. Collection pipe goes down though a hole drilled and siliconed through the cap of a small water bottle to keep things clean. Empty by unscrewing bottle from cap. Put a flat lid on top of skimmer (maybe the bottom of 3 liter would work, I had piece of plexi) with a ring a bit larger diameter than the neck (like a slice of a small water bottle) that hangs down from the inside of the collection cup lid a bit above the neck centered over it (silicone it). No need to extend the neck itself.
Oh, put a strip of masking tape from top to bottom, spray paint the outside white, yank off the strip. This keeps algae from growing inside it.
