I'm liking the new design Ed!

Does that mean you'll help carry it in the house? Looks like the stand is going to have to come in the back door of the house. Seeing as winter has officially arrive, that means a walk around the house in the snow! :(

Where did you pick up the T5 DALI ballasts?

Jon from Boston Aqua Farms sold them to me. He got them off of somebody else on RC a while back.

If you have any information on where to get DALI dimmers and such, i'd love to hear it. It looks like I might have to shop around in the European markets for the DALI gear that I need. There's a new controller made in Italy that has DALI and i've also considered writing my own. It just depends on what I can get my hands on and for how much.

Sure ... I owe you a couple moves of reefing items!

Actually, the challenge is going to be getting the stand / canopy / sidecar from Sho-Tank to my house. I doubt it will fit in my Maxima. :lmao: The tank, canopy, and sidecar should easily come in via the front door and the stand will come in through the back. Good news though ... No stairs. :D

You've been eyeing up that big snowmobile trailer in our driveway, haven't you??? That's gonna cost you cause it's full of sleds!

Actually, no. I totally forgot you had that until you said something. :lmao: I would hope that it wouldn't come to that. I think the stand/canopy should fit in the back of a full size truck bed and the sidecar should fit in the extended cab or something. I'll know more once I get the final measurements on it. Then maybe i'll have my eye on that big snowmobile trailer. :D

Looks like it might be time to call the friend with the giant cargo van again!

Now that you mention it, it would fit in Mitch's van! The tank and sump did so the stand/canopy/sidecar would probably go as well.

It was nice to have access to that van for the trip to Michigan. I was really worried about standing that tank up on end in the back of a truck and then driving it back to Chicago. I just knew it'd end up getting chipped or something. Instead it got to ride home in comfort on a nice blanket in that van.

That reminds me, i've got to get the polishing stuff out and start cleaning this beast up.

It was a busy weekend! First things first, I scored some new equipment. Matt at Sho Tank Aquariums got me a sweet Precision Marine SR45P substrate reactor. This will handle GFO or carbon duties as needed. Maybe i'll just get another and run both. :D This thing is so nice that I almost want to sell more of my old components and go with more Precision Marine. The craftsmanship is truly excellent.

Nothing like new equipment still in the box

This thing is built to last! Screw top lid, flow diffuser on the bottom to help evenly distribute the flow, super sized sponge filters, and the hose barb fittings are removable so you can use regular PVC to plumb it in.

I also made a stop in at Advanced Aquatics in Schaumburg. My fuge/growout system now has lighting. 4x 39w T5s ought to do the trick for growing some frags, don't you think? They'll be running 2x UVL Aquasuns and 2x UVL Super Actinics. The Aquasuns are definitely not my favorite color but the par output is excellent and they ought to do a great job with whatever I put in the frag rack.

Just a few more T5s .... 14 wasn't quite enough. :lmao:

The best news of all from this weekend's Sho Tank trip is that Matt and I have agreed on a stand/canopy/sidecar design and the work can begin. What I mean by "agreed" is that he said "here's what i'm thinking" and I said "Fantastic! Perfect! (etc etc)". I can't wait to see this thing in place, it will be the showcase of my living room. Looks like i'm on target to get water in it soon.

While I was out this weekend, I stopped by ReefKeeper's house to take some pictures of my 3 fish that are living in his stock tank and as usual, they wouldn't show their faces! :(

Seeing as I couldn't get pictures of my fish, I took pictures of some of the corals that will be going in my tank. They're currently housed in ReefKeeper's tank for safe keeping. :D Excuse the colors and such, I couldn't get a decent picture and the actinics were off so that "pop" isn't there. In each of these photos, the first picture is the original colony and the second is my frag.

Here's a few more from ReefKeeper's tank that'd i'd like to call "Future Frag Donors" for my 275g.

I also managed to get a few decent shots of my Bellus Angel trio so I might as well post those too. :lmao:

And 'Piggy' decided to see what was going on. This Coral Beauty was our first fish and I just can't get rid of him ... even if he is quite a pain sometimes. :)

:eek1: Oooh, I want some frags too! Those will look awesome!

I'm diggin the angel love  ...I'm all about it :smokin:

ekrunch - love the new plans for the tank!

And nice corals - Menard has provided many of us with sweet pieces :)

One suggestion on the bar surrounding the tank - if you can spring for it, make it a bit wider and do granite so you can stand on it. It provides a great surface for working on and saltwater cleans off it easily (a big plus for me at least). And being able to stand on it makes in-tank maintenance a breeze. I have a friend who does granite work that could probably hook you up since he is a fellow reefer...just let me know.

Line up man, those are all from Menard. He's a legend around these parts and always has the sweetest frags for sale. His for sale posts never last too long!

I'm going to see if I can pull of the Bellus Trio and at least one pair of Dwarves. I'm actually considering two pairs of Dwarves but that might be pushing it. :D

What I wouldn't give to have the Joculator that used to live in this tank when nbd13 had it.

Thanks man! Matt did most of the heavy lifting on that, I just threw together a SketchUp of his ideas. ;) I actually need to go and update those based on what I saw this weekend. He's added some more trim and firmed up the plans for doors, removable panels, etc.

I'm almost afraid to get started on planning/ordering the plumbing parts... my last estimated tab at Savko was painful. :eek2:

It's bad when another Chicago reefer can ID Menards' corals with nothing but a few pictures. ;) I'm always raiding his collection when he gives me the chance. I bought the last batch when he made his last post in the CMAS forums and had to hurry up and find a reef tank to hold them in while I built the 275! :lmao:

The bar is actually in place already. :( It divides my kitchen and my living room so it's not a functional bar at all. It's really just a window into the kitchen. I wish I had more space to be able to make the tank a true peninsula but unfortunately I can't in this place.
