How to merge pictures?

Anyone know how to do that thing where say you take maybe 4 pictures of your tank and then merge them together to make a larger full tank shot? I have photoshop elements 5 if that helps.

I'd open a new canvas sized to fit all of the images.

Then open up the images to be used.

Next drag each one onto the new canvas.

Move each one into place. Each will be a new layer.

Depending on how well you have taken the original shots, you may get away with careful positioning and healing etc to join them. Otherwise you may need to use layer masks and blending.

Next flatten the image and crop as necessary.

Save as required.

Fish/Shrimp are the biggest problem as if you are not careful they can appear in more than 1 of your original images and need removing.

There are probably other ways to do it.

playing with the opacity of the pics while you adjust the alignment helps deciding on the best fit.

With the method that Doug mentioned above, you don't have to worry about opacity since it autoaligns for you.
